Rex Hammock had this choice quote about digital magazines, in response to a USA Today article about Zinio and the supposed future of digital magazine convergence.
I think digital magazines are great — for people who think PDFs are the best way use the web.
His quote strikes at the core of why digital magazines won’t make it — there’s no reason or use for it. We already have interactive technology to browse, read and interact with content, it’s called HTML. And if you want whiz bang UI, sprinkle a little AJAX and/or Flash on it.

Songza is a search engine for music. Unlike Last.fm (which I love) or Rhapsody (which I hate), Songza permits users to choose exactly the song or artist they want to hear, and does not require them to subscribe or pay for its services. The interface is super clean and easy to use and the service – which I’m sure is one of the ways they make their money – makes it easy to purchase music you find and like.
These aren’t real rabbits or pigs, and I’m not talking about a golden egg laying goose, but they do exist, and they do poop candy. Thewill probably be loved by all poop and candy loving children. Not to mention that co-worker you sit next to that doesn’t have any taste, whatsoever.
At first, I thought this could only be done by having a hacker sneak into my home, gut my computer and then fill it with explosives. However, Randy Jeffries of the Weekly World News set me straight. He interviewed computer expert Arnold Yabenson, president of the Washington-based consumer group National CyberCrime Prevention Foundation (NCPF), and this is what he had to say:

When the receiver downloads the attachment, the electrical current and molecular structure of the central processing unit is altered, causing it to blast apart like a large hand grenade.
Makes sense to me. Oh, and the NCPF doesn’t have a website yet, but I’m sure they’re working on it.
